Understand the work
A home EV charging proposal needs to connect the vehicle's requirements with the property's electrical installation and parking arrangement. The starting point is a site assessment: where the vehicle parks, how cabling could reach it and what supply is available.
A private driveway and an allocated space in a shared garage can present very different planning questions. Ownership, building-management coordination and shared infrastructure should be clarified before ordering equipment. Charging speed and product suitability depend on the whole system, not the wallbox's headline rating alone.

Start with the charging routine, not a headline speed
Describe when the vehicle is normally parked, how it is used and whether charging would overlap with other household equipment. Include the vehicle model and any charger product under consideration. Ask the assessor to explain the proposed arrangement against those needs, rather than assuming the highest advertised rating is the right choice.
This is a planning brief, not a calculation of available capacity or a promised charging time. Final equipment and installation choices require the appropriate professional assessment.
An allocated bay and the route back to a supply
For a shared garage, collect any existing charging policy or project information from the building manager. Identify the parking space and which private and shared areas a proposed route might cross. Ask who can provide supply information and authorise access; do not enter restricted electrical spaces to find it.
Separate the permission and ownership questions from the technical proposal. Having a parking space does not, by itself, settle the supply arrangement or the procedure applicable to that building.
Compare the complete proposal
Ask a prospective provider to distinguish equipment, electrical assessment, cable route, installation work, any associated building work and handover information. Record exclusions and who is responsible for coordination with the property manager.
If an assessment identifies other work, ask for that scope to be explained separately. Porto Electric has not confirmed an installation service, provider, price or appointment availability; this guide helps prepare questions only.
What to discuss in the scope
- Home charging feasibility assessment
- Proposed equipment and electrical capacity review
- Cable-route and parking-space planning
- Coordination questions for shared garages
Before an assessment
- Record the vehicle model and your typical charging needs.
- Identify whether the parking space is private or shared.
- Gather available supply and panel information without opening equipment.
- Ask the property manager about existing charging arrangements and approval processes.
Questions worth asking
Can I choose the charger before an assessment?
You can shortlist products, but final selection should follow checks of compatibility, supply capacity, installation conditions and the parking arrangement.
Can a charger be installed in an apartment garage?
It may be possible, but the supply route, ownership and building arrangements need assessment. Do not assume that an allocated parking bay automatically resolves those questions.
Can this guide tell me how fast my car will charge at home?
No. Vehicle, equipment, supply and installation details need assessment. Provide your routine and product information so a proposed arrangement can be explained without relying only on an advertised rating.
What should two charger proposals be compared against?
Compare the same parking space, route, equipment, assessment, associated works and handover scope. Ask what remains excluded or dependent on further checks rather than comparing only the wallbox price.
